Notes on this data
2720 N peak and 890 N continuous are for PS10-70x400 (continuous is 320/500/890 N passive/fan/fluid). Speed and stroke figures differ by stator: x400 is 3.9 m/s over 1450 mm (the value linmot.com lists), while x80 is 6.1 m/s over 1770 mm at 561 N peak. Stators come in 80, 160, 240, 320 and 400. The eCatalog pages give no IP rating.
Specify Motion is not affiliated with NTI AG. LinMot and P10-70 are used only to identify the product. Comparisons use published figures; always confirm against the current datasheet.

Typical applications
What a tubular linear motor is
A tubular linear motor has its permanent magnets stacked inside a stainless steel rod, with a cylindrical stator of coils around it. Current in the stator coils creates thrust along the rod, which can move while the stator stays fixed, or the reverse. The magnetic field is fully enclosed and symmetric, so there is no net attraction force on the guidance and very little stray field. Many designs include integrated position sensing and temperature monitoring, and look like a pneumatic cylinder.
When engineers choose a tubular linear motor
Choose a tubular linear motor as a programmable, direct-drive replacement for pneumatic cylinders, where many positions, controlled force, high speed or long life are needed. It suits pick-and-place, packaging, assembly and test. The trade-offs are cost and side load: many designs need external guidance for radial loads, and heat must be managed in a compact body. For very long strokes or very high forces, flat linear motors or screw actuators may be better.
How to specify the LinMot P10-70
Send these with your enquiry and an engineer can confirm the right P10-70 variant or an equivalent:
- Peak and continuous force (N)
- Stroke (mm) and speed (m/s)
- Moving mass and acceleration (kg, m/s²)
- Side load and guidance arrangement
- Vertical load and need for gravity compensation
- Supply voltage and drive (V)
- Environment, sealing and cooling
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying side load directly to the rod without external guides
- Running vertical axes without a brake or spring compensation
- Overlooking heat in high duty cycles
- Choosing a tubular motor where a cheaper pneumatic cylinder is adequate
LinMot P10-70: frequently asked questions
Can you help replace LinMot P10-70 or source the original?
Send the full model code, quantity and required date. Our engineers can check original-part availability and assess suitable alternatives, including supply-network options where appropriate. We confirm compatibility and any changes needed before recommending a replacement.
What is the LinMot P10-70?
LinMot's most powerful tubular linear motor at 70 mm, for 3x400 VAC drives. It gives multi-kN peak force for heavy, long-stroke work. Published series figures include peak force 2,720 N, continuous force 890 N, stroke 1,770 mm, linear speed 6.1 m/s. It is made by NTI AG; Specify Motion can help source it or propose an equivalent.
Who makes the LinMot P10-70?
The LinMot P10-70 is made by LinMot (NTI AG) and is listed here for engineers comparing options. Specify Motion is not affiliated with NTI AG; brand names are used only to identify the product.
What is the peak force of the LinMot P10-70?
The published series maximum peak force is 2,720 N. Individual models and sizes in the P10-70 range vary, so check the exact variant against your duty cycle, mounting and environment, or ask our engineers to confirm the right size for you.
Is there an alternative to the LinMot P10-70?
We can assess suitable replacement options. Our engineers can review the original model and propose options for your load, speed and environment. An engineer confirms the fit against your application before recommending anything.
How is a tubular linear motor different from a flat linear motor?
In a tubular motor, the magnets are inside a round rod and the coils surround it, so the field is enclosed and there is no net attraction. In a flat motor, magnets sit on a flat track, giving long strokes and high forces but often an attraction force. Tubular motors suit cylinder-style mechanisms; flat ones suit stages and gantries.
Can a tubular linear motor replace a pneumatic cylinder?
Yes, it is a common use. It offers programmable positions, force and speed control and long life without compressed air. It costs more upfront, so the case usually rests on flexibility, energy savings, cycle time or reduced maintenance. Check side loads and whether a guide is needed.
