Leadshine CS-D Series replacement and alternative options

Use these supply-network options as a starting point for an engineering check. We can also help source the original Leadshine part. Published series figures do not establish an exact-model or drop-in replacement: confirm ratings, fit, interfaces and approvals for your application.

Figures are the highest published for each series and are not always measured the same way. A higher figure is not automatically a better choice: mounting, duty cycle, feedback, connectors and approvals matter too. An engineer will check the fit against your application before recommending anything.

What a closed-loop stepper drive is

A closed-loop stepper drive runs a stepper motor with encoder feedback. It compares commanded and actual position and corrects errors, preventing missed steps under varying load. Many drives also adjust current to the load, running cooler and quieter than open-loop drives, and can raise an alarm on position error. The drive typically accepts step and direction pulses, or fieldbus commands, and is matched to a motor fitted with a specific encoder.

When engineers choose a closed-loop stepper drive

Choose a closed-loop stepper drive when open-loop steppers risk losing steps, run too hot or need fault reporting, but a full servo system is not justified. It suits indexing, packaging and pick-and-place axes. The trade-offs are cost and compatibility: the motor needs a compatible encoder, and dynamics remain below a servo at high speed. For simple steady loads, an open-loop drive is cheaper.

How to specify the Leadshine CS-D Series

Send these with your enquiry and an engineer can confirm the right Leadshine CS-D Series variant:

  • Supply voltage (V DC or AC)
  • Phase current (A)
  • Encoder type and resolution
  • Command interface
  • Alarm and fault outputs
  • Tuning modes
  • Motor compatibility

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using an encoder resolution or wiring the drive does not support
  • Not connecting the alarm output
  • Expecting servo performance at high speed
  • Skipping tuning on heavy loads

Leadshine CS-D Series: frequently asked questions

Can you help replace Leadshine CS-D Series or source the original?

Send the full model code, quantity and required date. Our engineers can check original-part availability and assess suitable alternatives, including supply-network options where appropriate. We confirm compatibility and any changes needed before recommending a replacement.

What is the Leadshine CS-D Series?

Cost-effective pulse/direction closed-loop drives for CS-M motors, replacing the ES easy-servo drives, up to 8 A and 110 VDC. Published series figures include current 8 A. It is available through our supply network, and our engineers can confirm the right variant for your application.

What model codes are in the Leadshine CS-D Series range?

The Leadshine CS-D Series range includes CS-D508, CS-D808, CS-D1008, CS-D507E, CS-D1008E. The table on this page lists each published model code with its key figures. Send us the code you use, or the one you need to replace, and our engineers will confirm availability, lead time or the closest equivalent.

Who makes the Leadshine CS-D Series?

The Leadshine CS-D Series is made by Leadshine (Leadshine Technology) available through our supply network. Send us your requirement for pricing, lead time, datasheets and CAD.

What is the current of the Leadshine CS-D Series?

The published series maximum current is 8 A. Individual models and sizes in the Leadshine CS-D Series range vary, so check the exact variant against your duty cycle, mounting and environment, or ask our engineers to confirm the right size for you.

Is there an alternative to the Leadshine CS-D Series?

We can assess suitable replacement options. On published figures, UIRobot UI Robot UIM240 (Pulse/Direction) and UIRobot UI Robot UIM241 (RS232) are options to assess from our supply network. An engineer confirms the fit against your application before recommending anything.

What happens when a closed-loop stepper hits an overload?

The drive detects position error from the encoder and increases current to correct it. If the error exceeds a set threshold, the drive raises an alarm and may disable the motor. This prevents silent position loss. The controller should respond to the alarm output.

Can I use any encoder with a closed-loop stepper drive?

Usually not. Closed-loop drives support specific encoder types, resolutions and wiring, often matched to motors from the same range. Check compatibility before mixing motors and drives. Using an unsupported encoder can prevent the closed-loop functions, stall detection and current optimisation from working at all.
