Start with what is installed
A stopped machine presents a different buying decision from a new design. You may need the same part to restore production, a current manufacturer-supported successor, or a planned change to the motor and drive together. Tell us which route is acceptable and whether the machine is running, intermittent or already down.
Record the complete manufacturer code, including the characters after the main series number. Motor windings, encoders, brakes, connectors and firmware options can change the result. A photograph of the nameplate is useful, but software backups and the existing electrical drawings may be equally important. Our replacement information checklist explains what to collect.
Three routes to investigate
| Route | What needs checking | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Original part | Exact suffix, condition, source, availability and any revision restrictions | Least change only if the supplied configuration genuinely matches |
| Current successor | Manufacturer guidance, accessories, programming and installation differences | A successor may still require commissioning changes |
| Alternative system | Motor, drive, feedback, controller and mechanical interfaces together | More design work, but an opportunity to reduce future obsolescence risk |
We can discuss sourcing the original and assessing another option in the same enquiry. An alternative is not automatically a drop-in replacement. If keeping the existing PLC programme, feedback cable or motor is essential, say so before a shortlist is produced.
Protect the installation information
Ask the person responsible for the machine to preserve parameters, configuration files and software versions before equipment is removed. Record brake arrangements, external feedback, enable signals and any safety functions. Physical similarity and a matching power rating do not establish compatibility.
For a planned upgrade, list downtime windows and the acceptance tests the replacement must pass. Consider whether drawings, spare-parts lists and maintenance training will need updating. We do not promise repair services or guaranteed emergency stock; the available supply and engineering route is confirmed for each requirement.
Request sourcing and replacement options
Send the full part number, photographs, quantity and required date. Include whether new-only supply is required and whether you would consider another condition if explicitly identified. State which components must remain and whether manufacturer alternatives are acceptable. Any proposed supply condition, warranty and delivery terms should be confirmed in the quotation.
If the requirement repeats across several machines, include the installed population and expected annual demand. That helps distinguish an urgent one-off enquiry from a migration or spare-parts standardisation project.
Turn the requirement into an enquiry
Send the application, quantities and deadline, plus any existing model codes. We can discuss the original part, alternatives or a matched package. Compatibility, availability and supply arrangements are confirmed for the specific enquiry.
