Who Wanshsin is
Wanshsin is a Chinese manufacturer of speed reducers, gear motors and drive electronics. The products are made by WANSHSIN Seikou (Hunan) Co., Ltd., which describes itself as a maker of gearboxes, gear motors, HVLS fans and industrial control systems that also supplies automation solutions. For UK machine builders the most relevant part of the range is its precision planetary gearboxes for servo motors, in inline and right-angle spiral bevel forms, with high-rigidity and high-radial-load variants for machine tools and AGVs.
The company presents a wide portfolio: gearboxes, motors, controllers including servo drives and frequency converters, and fans. That breadth lets it supply a motor, reducer and drive together, which it promotes as a complete gear motor solution.
History and ownership
Wanshsin’s published history starts in 2009, when Dongguan WANSHSIN Mechanical & Electrical Co., Ltd. was set up in Dongguan, Guangdong province. In 2014 WANSHSIN Seikou (Hunan) Co., Ltd. was established and the headquarters moved to Changsha in Hunan province.
The Hunan site has grown in phases. Phase I came into operation in 2016, Phase II in 2018 and Phase III in 2020. The company opened an R&D centre in Japan in 2018 and another in Shenzhen in 2019, so it now runs three R&D centres: Japan, Shenzhen and the Hunan headquarters. In 2020 it also established WANSHSIN Ruikong and was recognised as a “small giant” enterprise by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Later milestones include land in the Changsha High-Tech Zone bought in 2021 for drive and servo motor production, recognition as a Hunan provincial gear reducer engineering research centre in 2022, the acquisition of Pinggao in 2023 with a reducer project sized for 500,000 units a year, and construction of the High-Tech Zone production base from 2024. The company states its sites cover about 200 acres with 120,000 square metres of buildings.
Wanshsin’s website does not publish its shareholders. We therefore describe ownership only as far as the operating company, WANSHSIN Seikou (Hunan) Co., Ltd.
Product portfolio
The precision gearbox families we list are:
- WSH and WSHR: high-rigidity inline planetary with three backlash classes, and its right-angle spiral bevel version with ratios up to 200:1.
- WTH and WTHR: planetary gearboxes designed for high radial loads on the output, inline and right-angle.
- WAE and WAER: high-precision round-flange planetary with near-zero backlash for robotics and CNC, plus the right-angle version.
- WADR: right-angle planetary with a spiral bevel input stage.
- WVRB and WVRBR: helical planetary with an integrated output shaft and square flange, and a heavier-duty right-angle variant.
- WTN: hollow-shaft rotary platform reducer with a crossed roller bearing for indexing tables.
- WPL / WPF: economy spur planetary for general duty.
Beyond these, Wanshsin’s catalogue includes strain wave and RV reducers for robot joints, industrial planetary gearboxes, compact AC gear motors, the WXR/F/K/S gear motor series, inverters and HVLS fans. For help choosing a reducer type, see our gearboxes hub and the harmonic vs planetary vs cycloidal guide.
What Wanshsin is known for technically
Two design themes run through the precision range. The high-rigidity series (WSH and WSHR) target axes where torsional stiffness matters, such as machine tool feeds and servo positioning under cutting load. The high-radial-load series (WTH and WTHR) target axes where a pinion, pulley or wheel hangs on the output shaft, which is typical of AGV drive wheels and rack-and-pinion gantries. Right-angle versions use a spiral bevel stage, which runs smoother and quieter than a straight bevel at servo speeds.
Most series come in several backlash classes. Picking the lowest class you actually need, rather than the tightest available, is the easiest way to control cost.
When comparing a Wanshsin unit with a gearbox already on a machine, check more than ratio and frame size. Confirm the rated and emergency-stop output torque, the permitted radial and axial load at your actual pulley or pinion position, the motor adaptor and shaft dimensions, the input speed limit and the lubrication type. A right-angle unit also changes where the motor sits, so check clearances early.
Industries served
Wanshsin presents industry cases for high-end robots, including collaborative and industrial robots, warehousing and logistics with AGVs and feeders, and animal husbandry equipment. Its planetary ranges are also aimed at machine tools and general automation.
Global and UK presence
Wanshsin promotes itself internationally through its English-language website, LinkedIn and YouTube. Its website does not list a UK subsidiary or office.
In the UK, Wanshsin precision planetary and right-angle gearboxes are available through our supply network, and our engineers can help specify them. Pricing, lead times, datasheets and CAD models are available through the enquiry form on this page.
What to send when specifying a Wanshsin gearbox
Send the motor make and model, the required output torque and speed, the radial and axial loads on the output, the duty cycle and the backlash limit. Say whether the axis needs high torsional rigidity (the WSH family) or high radial load capacity (the WTH family), and whether an inline or right-angle layout fits the machine. With those inputs our engineers can propose the right series and frame size.
