Who Ewellix is

Ewellix is a maker of electromechanical linear actuators, roller screw actuators, lifting columns, precision screws and linear guides. The business was SKF’s linear technology arm until 2018, traded as Ewellix while owned by Triton, and has since become part of the Schaeffler Group. Its actuators now carry the EWELLIX brand within Schaeffler’s linear motion range.

When Schaeffler announced the purchase in July 2022, it described Ewellix as headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, with around 1,200 employees. The business had six production and customising sites across the USA, Europe and Asia, 16 sales offices in 15 countries and about 550 sales partners. Ewellix reported sales of about €216 million in 2021, and Schaeffler expected about €250 million for 2022.

History and ownership

Schaeffler’s announcement describes Ewellix as the former linear technology business of SKF. An affiliate of Triton acquired it in 2018 and set it up as a stand-alone company under the Ewellix brand. Schaeffler’s investor presentation refers to more than 50 years of business experience behind the products.

On 24 July 2022 Schaeffler signed an agreement to buy the Ewellix Group from an affiliate of Triton Fund V. It was a share deal at a purchase price of about €582 million, plus about €120 million of net debt, making Ewellix a wholly owned subsidiary of Schaeffler AG. Closing was expected by the end of 2022, subject to merger control and foreign investment clearances. Current EWELLIX user manuals name Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG in Schweinfurt, Germany, as the manufacturer. The old ewellix.com address now redirects to Schaeffler’s e-commerce site.

Product portfolio

High-performance electric cylinders

The EMA-100 is a modular heavy-duty actuator aimed at replacing hydraulic cylinders. Its ball screw version (EMA-100-1) offers up to 60 kN dynamic force, 750 mm/s and 2,000 mm stroke. Its roller screw version (EMA-100-2-R) reaches 80 kN dynamic force and, on the high-lead variant, 890 mm/s. It can be fitted with customer servo motors or IEC induction motors, or bought as the 24 V e-MOVEKIT package for battery-powered machines. The EMA-80 is a 24 V DC ball screw actuator with 31 kN dynamic load capacity, IP67S sealing and an absolute position sensor.

For very high forces, the SRSA, SVSA and SLSA actuators use planetary or recirculating roller screws. They can have in-line or parallel motors, brakes, Pt100 temperature sensors and automatic lubrication. Their performance is quoted per application drawing rather than in a standard table. Schaeffler’s site also lists the CASM 32/40/63 high-speed electric cylinders and the CEMC range in the same high-performance group.

Sealing and temperature differ between the two EMA-100 versions. Both are IP54S as standard, with IP65 available through a sinter filter or hose. The ball screw version is rated from -20 to +50 °C, while the roller screw version is rated from 0 to +40 °C. Check this before using the higher-force variant outdoors.

Industrial actuators

The CAHB family covers compact actuators for auxiliary functions on construction, agricultural and industrial machines. It reaches up to 10 kN, 60 mm/s and 700 mm stroke on 12, 24 or 48 V DC, with AC versions in the CAHB-3x. The CAR and CAT actuators cover voltages from 12 V DC to three-phase 400 V AC, up to 4 kN and 193 mm/s. The CAHM extends the industrial range to 50 kN.

Outside industrial machinery, Ewellix makes lifting columns, the MATRIX actuators for medical and ergonomic equipment, robot range extenders, ball and roller screws and linear guides.

Technologies and standards

Roller screws are the technical core of the high-force range. They spread load across many threaded rollers, carrying far more thrust and shock than a ball screw of similar size. Our ball screw vs roller screw guide explains when they are worth the cost, and our hydraulic-to-electric guide covers conversions of the kind the EMA-100 targets. Duty cycle matters on the industrial DC and AC actuators: the CAHB-3x manual, for example, limits continuous running to 90 seconds with a 25% duty cycle (10% for UL-marked units).

Industries served

Schaeffler’s 2025 trade fair release positions the CAHB range for auxiliary functions on off-road and compact construction equipment, and the EMA-100 for heavy machinery and mobile machines. The EMA-100 data sheet also mentions contamination-sensitive settings such as food processing, server farms and clean rooms. Lifting columns and MATRIX actuators serve medical and ergonomic equipment.

Global and UK presence

EWELLIX products are now sold through Schaeffler. In the UK, Schaeffler (UK) Limited has its registered office at Unit 308, Fort Dunlop, Fort Parkway, Birmingham B24 9FD (company number 556493). It lists +44 (0)121 313 5830 and info.uk@schaeffler.com for industrial and automotive OEM enquiries. Product data and ordering for EWELLIX actuators are on Schaeffler’s medias e-commerce site.

Specify Motion and Ewellix

Specify Motion is independent of Ewellix and Schaeffler and is not affiliated with either. We can help source EWELLIX actuators or propose equivalents from our supply network that meet the same published force, stroke and speed figures, confirmed by an engineer. Frequently asked questions

What is the Ewellix website?

The former ewellix.com address now redirects to Schaeffler's medias e-commerce site, where EWELLIX linear actuators, high-performance actuators and lifting columns are listed under linear motion. Technical documents, such as product data sheets and user manuals, are published in Schaeffler's media library.

How do I contact Ewellix in the UK?

EWELLIX products are now part of Schaeffler. Schaeffler (UK) Limited lists +44 (0)121 313 5830 and info.uk@schaeffler.com for industrial enquiries. Its registered office is Unit 308, Fort Dunlop, Fort Parkway, Birmingham B24 9FD.

Where is Ewellix headquartered?

When Schaeffler agreed to buy it in 2022, Ewellix was headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. Current EWELLIX user manuals name Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG, Georg-Schäfer-Straße 30, Schweinfurt, Germany, as the manufacturer.

Who owns Ewellix?

Ewellix is owned by Schaeffler AG. Schaeffler announced in July 2022 that it had signed an agreement to buy the Ewellix Group from an affiliate of Triton Fund V for about EUR 582 million, making it a wholly owned subsidiary. Before 2018 the business was SKF's linear technology arm.

Is Ewellix the same as SKF linear actuators?

Ewellix grew out of SKF's linear technology business. Triton bought it in 2018 and rebranded it Ewellix, so the linear products that business made now carry the EWELLIX brand within Schaeffler. Check the current EWELLIX code when replacing an older SKF-branded unit.

What does Ewellix make?

Ewellix makes electromechanical linear actuators, high-performance electric cylinders, roller screw actuators, lifting columns, robot range extenders, ball and roller screws, and linear guides. Industrial actuators range from compact CAHB units to the EMA-100, rated up to 80 kN in roller screw form.
